BIOS Power-On Self Test (POST)
Overview
The AMI Hi-Flex BIOS provides all IBM standard POST routines, as
well as enhanced AMI POST routines. AMI POST supports CPU
internal diagnostics. AMI POST codes are accessible via the
Manufacturing Test Port (I/O Port 80h).

When the system is powered on, the AMI Hi-Flex BIOS enters the
Power-On Self Test (POST) routines. The phase are:
System Test and Initialization
(test and initialize motherboard for
normal operations) and
System Configuration Verification
(compare defined configuration with
hardware actually installed).

The AMI Hi-Flex BIOS performs the various diagnostic checks at the
time the system is powered up. Errors are reported:
If...
Then...
the error occurs before the display
device is initialized,
a series of beeps sound. Beep codes indicate
that a fatal error has occurred. The AMI BIOS
Beep Codes are described on the next page.
the error occurs after the display
device is initialized,
the error message is displayed. Displayed error
messages are explained on page 36. A prompt
to press <F1> can also appear.
