4-2 Starting the Open Controller
The STATUS LED indicates the success of the POST (Table 4.B).

The CONTROLLER and the SCANNER also perform their power-on self
tests when you press the reset switch on the front panel.
How you power up the open controller depends on what software is already
installed on the native IDE drive. Refer to "Installing Software onto a
Native IDE Drive" on page 6-1 for more information on loading an
operating system or application software on your IDE drive.
Table 4.C lists devices that can function as a native IDE drive in the open
controller system.

You can have up to four IDE drives in your open controller system, defined
as:

secondary master

secondary slave
Refer to "Defining Drive Types" on page 5-7 for additional information.

solid red internal fault / POST failure
Important: You must have an operating system loaded on your IDE drive
before you can use it to boot the open controller.
