6-18 Installing Software
Steps:
1. Set up a
hostsvr
connection that allows the open controller to access
the floppy of the PC as its floppy drive. Place Disk 1 of MS-DOS 6.22
into the floppy drive and boot the open controller. Refer to "Installing
software from a remote PC through COM2" on page 6-3 for complete
information.
2. Load MS-DOS 6.22 onto the C:\ drive on the open controller.
3. Set up a parallel connection between the open controller and the PC to
transfer the \
i386
directory from the Windows NT CD-ROM to the IDE
drive on the open controller.
4. Run the WINNT utility to load the Windows NT setup files from the
\i386
directory on the IDE drive:
winnt /B /S:c:\i386
/B
loading without floppy disks
/S
alternate path to CD-ROM
c:
IDE drive
5. Set up a NTFS partition on the D:\ drive and install NT.
Your Open Controller is now setup with a dual boot for either DOS or
Windows NT. It may be helpful to keep the dual boot; otherwise you would
have to boot DOS using
hostsvr
again to run some of the utilities on the
open controller diagnostic utilities disk.
Loading MS-DOS and Windows NT with a parallel-port floppy drive
If you do have a floppy drive, you can skip the
hostsvr
connection (Step 1
above) and load DOS directly. After DOS is loaded onto your IDE drive,
continue with Step 3 above (setting up the parallel connection to move the
i386 directory).
Appendix B contains a more detailed description of this procedure.
Important: If your primary method of transferring files to the open
controller will be through DOS utilities such as hostsvr or
interlnk,
you may want to use a FAT32 format instead of
NTFS.
If your Windows NT drive is configured as NTFS, you can still
boot using
hostsvr
and run the open controller diagnostics
utilities, but you cannot transfer files to the hard drive.
