Booting when an operating system is loaded
If you have already loaded an operating system on the native IDE drive,
install the IDE drive and apply power to the open controller system.
If you are using a FlashDrive, CompactFlash, or microdrive onboard the
open controller CPU as the native IDE drive, you may want to first
temporarily install this drive in another PC and download an operating
system to the drive.Then, you can install the FlashDrive, CompactFlash, or
microdrive onboard the open controller and boot directly from this drive.
Refer to "Temporarily installing the native IDE drive in another PC" on
page 6-11 for additional information.
Booting when an operating system is not loaded
If the native IDE drive is not bootable, you can choose one of the following
configurations (Table 4.D) to boot the open controller. You may find it
easiest to boot from a remote PC through COM2 using the
hostsvr
utility
that ships with the open controller (see Page 4-5). Each of the options listed
below requires that you have certain hardware and software utilities, so be
sure to read each section carefully and select which is most appropriate to
your situation.
Once the system is up and running, you can then perform the necessary
steps to boot your operating system directly from the native IDE drive. For
example, you can use the DOS
sys
command to make the native IDE drive
DOS bootable.
