General battery maintenance

WARNING

Chemical hazard!
Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after
handling.

and burns. Always wear splash-proof goggles and protective clothing (gloves and aprons). Wash

Explosion hazard!
If battery electrolyte is frozen, attempting to charge the battery or jump-start the engine can cause the
battery to explode. Always keep batteries at full charge to prevent frozen battery electrolyte. Never
charge a frozen battery.

The batteries are located in a compartment under the engine frame on the feed table side of the bagger. Unlatch and
slide the battery compartment out to access the batteries.

Keep your batteries in good operating condition as follows:

1. Add distilled water as needed to keep separators under water.

2. Keep the batteries with a full charge as shown on a hydrometer.

3. Keep the batteries clean and dry. Make sure the batteries are fastened in position.

4. If a battery will not keep a charge, install a new battery that has the specifications given in this manual.

5. Before adding water, check each cell with a hydrometer. The specific gravity in each cell must have full charge.

6. When using a battery charger, charge at the lowest rate possible to reduce gas formation. Do not charge a frozen

battery.

NOTE:

The full charge specific gravity will usually be shown on the battery. Cold temperatures of approximately

-17.8 °C
