5.3
Balancing procedure.
Select the balancing mode desired by repeatidly press-
ing the “ALU” button until the desired positions are illu-
minated.
NORMAL
Used for steel rims.
ALU-modes
Used for alloy rims or where one or more stick-on
weights are to be used.
The stick-on weight(s) will be applied by hand.
STATIC
Used for narrow wheels that are not balanced dy-
namically, e.g.: (<4” width). Only apply the weight
to the center line of the wheel.
No “left” or “right” weight is calculated.
Mount the wheel according to Chapter 5.1 and select
the correct wheel type.
5.3.1
Rim data input.
Dimensions will be entered as described in section 4.2.
Dimension
Units
diameter:
inches (default) or mm.
rim width:
inches (default) or mm.
offset:
millimeters.
To change the units, refer to Chapters 5.4.2 and 5.4.3.
Obtaining rim data:
-
diameter
Note:
For manual entry, the nominal rim diam-
eter should be derived from the rim or tire.
-
rim width
Measure manually with the calipers or derive from
the rim. Enter manually. Refer to Figure 5.3.1-1.
-
offset
Offset equals the distance from the balancer cabi-
net zero point to the side of the rim or plane refer-
ence point. Refer to Figure 5.3.1-2.
The rim or plane reference point depends on the
balancing mode set. See Figure 5.3.1-2. Place the
round disc on the end of the gauge arm flush against
the surface where the wight will be applied.
Use the gauge arm to measure the offset value on
the graduated scale of the arm rod.
Enter the value on the display using the appropri-
ate buttons.
Note:
The gauge arm has a length that may not
be sufficient for motorcycle wheels. Use
the gauge arm extension part # and set
the procedure to "motorcycle". Motorcycle
wheels are normally balanced in static
mode.
