4.1.3 Fill the insulin pump 3.0 ml glass cartridge
(steps 16 to 24)
16. Clean the rubber membrane of the new, empty glass car-
tridge with an alcohol wipe before filling it.
17. Snap the glass cartridge into the CombiFill extension as
shown in the illustration.
Make sure that the plunger of the cartridge is in the correct
position (see figure).
18. Set the CombiFill extension with the glass cartridge on a
hard surface, like a table.
19. Put the bottle holder of the CombiFill base down onto the
top of the CombiFill extension so that the filling needle
pierces the middle of the rubber membrane of the glass car-
tridge.
The rubber membrane of the glass cartridge should not be
pierced more than three times.
If the aluminum rim of the glass cartridge is pierced instead
of the middle of the rubber membrane, the glass cartridge
and the filling needle should not be used, as there is a risk
of leakage.
20. Make sure that the bottle holder of the CombiFill base firm-
ly attaches to the CombiFill extension.
21. Make sure that the filling needle has pierced the rubber
membrane of the glass cartridge.
22. Push the plunger rod down slowly and briefly, then release
it and allow it to slide back.
This gentle pumping action allows you to inject the insulin
from the plastic cartridge into the glass cartridge.

11. Push the plunger rod down so that all air from the plastic
cartridge enters the insulin vial.
12. While holding steady pressure against the plunger rod with
your thumb, invert the CombiFill so that the filling needle
and plastic cartridge are pointing upwards into the insulin
vial.
Slowly release the pressure against the plunger rod and
allow the insulin to flow into the plastic cartridge.
Do not pull the plunger rod while it is moving to prevent the
formation of air bubbles.
13. Remove any air bubbles by tapping on the plastic cartridge
14. Slowly pull the plunger rod straight downwards to com-
pletely fill the plastic cartridge.
Be careful not to move the plunger rod side-to-side.
The plastic cartridge is correctly filled when there are no air
bubbles in the cartridge and the top of the plunger is on the
same level as the 3.15 ml marking line of the plastic car-
tridge. With the CombiFill, the plunger cannot be pulled out
of the cartridge.
15. Remove the insulin vial from the CombiFill base bottle
holder.
