N/A
Verify that all components of the attached safety system are securely and
correctly connected together.
Reconnect components which are not correctly connected.
Consult the manufacturer’s User Instructions for connection
requirements.
4
4
Inspect the system for defects in the metal (excessive corrosion, wear,
splits, cracks, bends, etc.).
If defects are sufficient to decrease the strength of the system,
remove the component from service and replace.
4
4
Inspect the markings (Figure 3). All markings should be present and
legible.
If markings are not present or are illegible, remove the whole
component from service and replace.
4
4
Inspect the fastener(s) and structural material for damage that could
affect the system holding strength. Inspect the surrounding work area to
ensure no hazards or obstructions are present which may injure the user
or affect system performance.
If on inspection it is deemed the system structure, anchorage
structure or fasteners are damaged, contact Capital Safety for
replacement parts and advice before using the system.
4
4
Check the carriage for obvious damage such as cracks, heavy indentations
or severe corrosion. Ensure that the attachment shackle is free to pivot,
and that its securing pin is centrally locked on the inside face. Ensure that
the four wheels are in place, undamaged, and are able to rotate.
If on inspection the carriage is deemed damaged, contact Capital
Safety for a replacement.
COMPATIBILITY OF COMPONENTS (Reference to attachment warnings):
(See Figure 4) If the connecting element such as a snap hook or carabiner is undersized or irregular in shape, a situation could occur where the connecting element applies a
force to the gate of the snap hook or carabiner. This force may cause the gate (of either a self-locking or a non-locking snap hook) to open, allowing the snap hook or carabiner
to disengage from the connection point. Suitable carabiners or snap hooks are considered to be compatible with connecting elements as long as their sizes and shapes do not
cause their gate mechanisms to inadvertently open regardless of how they become oriented. Only use connectors that are suitable to each application. Ensure all connections are
compatible in size, shape and strength. Do not use equipment that is not compatible. Contact Capital Safety if you have any questions about compatibility. Capital Safety connectors
(snap hooks and carabiners) are designed to be used only as specified in each product’s user’s instructions.
See Figure 5 for inappropriate connections showing how snap hooks and carabiners should not be connected.
IMPORTANT:
Extreme working conditions (harsh environments, prolonged use, Sharp edged surfaces etc.) may require increased frequency of inspections. Record
the inspection/service date and results in the ‘Periodic Examination and Repair History’ in the “General Instructions for Use and Maintenance” (5902392).
Transport the component or system in a package to protect it from any cuts, moisture or ultraviolet light. Avoid corrosive, overheated or refrigerated atmospheres.
A full body harness is the only acceptable body holding device that can be used in a fall arrest system. The connection of a fall arrest system to a harness (EN353-1,
EN353-2, EN355 or EN360) MUST EXCLUSIVELY be carried out using the upper dorsal, sternal or pectoral anchorage points; these points may also be used for connecting a
descender (EN341) or an elevation rescue system (EN1496).
