You can connect directly to your serial equipment or to a patch panel by
using adapters that convert the octopus cable RJ-12 connectors to DB-25, .
Patch Panel
If you want to connect to devices through a patch panel, 3Com recommends
a rack-mounted patch panel that fans out eight 6-pin ports through RJ-12
jacks. The panel has three groups of eight ports, as shown in Figure 2-9 and
Figure 2-10. Each group of eight ports is called a harmonica box. Three
harmonica boxes compose one patch panel. Figure 2-9 shows pin
assignments for attachment to a modem or other data communi- cations
equipment (DCE). Figure 2-10 shows pin assignments for attachment to a
terminal, host, printer, or other data terminal equipment (DTE).
