LABEL
DESCRIPTION
Select Country
Select the country in which your NXC-8160 operates.
This is important because many countries have their own regulations
pertaining to radio frequencies and their usage. You should set this option
accordingly to ensure your NXC-8160 is operating within local guidelines.
WLAN Mode
Choose a wireless mode from the list. If you want to turn off a radio, set the
WLAN mode to
Disabled
. Other mode options are:
802.11a
,
802.11b
,
802.11g
, and
802.11 Mixed b/g
.
The NXC-8160 supports simultaneous channels within the same radio band,
so you can set both radios to use the same WLAN mode if you like.
Select Channel
Select a radio channel on which to transmit. The available options depend on
both the
Country
and the
WLAN Mode
.
Enable TrueReuse
Select this option to enable TrueReuse on a given radio. TrueReuse
technology multiplies the bandwidth of a standard IEEE 802.11 channel by
dynamically optimizing the re-use of each frequency.
Normally, up to three Access Points (APs) are permitted to simultaneously
transmit on the same channel. The TrueReuse algorithm staggers AP
transmissions within the same channel to prevent them from causing mutual
interference with one another.
Note: At the time of writing, this feature is not enabled.

Max Retries
Select the number of times to try to resend a packet if the transmission fails.
Enable Short
Preamble
Select this option to enable a short preamble in 802.11b’s Physical Layer
Convergance Protocol (PLCP). It is provided to improve throughput efficiency
when transmitting either voice or video data packets.
Note: This option is only available when the given radio’s
WLAN Mode
is set to
802.11b
or
802.11 Mixed b/g
.
Enable Rate
Adaptation
Select this option to enable data rate adaptation. This allows the NXC-8160 to
dynamically adjust data throughput rates based on the condition of the
network and the Quality of Service (QoS) settings of the data in question.
Rates (Mbps)
For each of the data rates listed, select whether the rate is
Basic
,
Optional
,
or
Disabled
. When configuring the data rates, you should consider the data
rate capabilities of the wireless devices in your network.
•
Basic
– These data rates are usually the data rates that the majority of
your wireless devices can support. Only wireless devices that support all
of the Basic data rates will be allowed to connect to the WLAN network
when this option is set for the given radio. We recommended that you
configure a minimal number of
Basic
data rates as it is the most common
setting and the one most widely supported by wireless clients. When
working in
Mixed b/g
mode, you should have at least one Basic data rate
selected from amongst the provided 802.11b data rates.
•
Optional
– These data rates vary the speed according to the power
savings settings on the client devices. The NXC-8160 only transmits in
this mode to client devices that support it.
•
Disabled
– These data rates are locked down and not broadcast, so client
devices cannot use them. Since the NXC-8160 allows for dense
deployment of APs, we recommend disabling low data rates. Not doing so
could possibly lead to an “edge user” effect in which a client reduces
aggregate network throughput by moving to the edge of a coverage area.
