SonTek/YSI
ADVField/Hydra Operation Manual (September 1, 2001)
31
OutFormat or OF [BINARY|ASCII]
•
Default parameter:
ASCII
•
When given without parameter: returns the current output format setting.
•
This setting determines the format of the data output through the serial port during
real-time
data collection (data acquisition mode; §3.1.2).
•
Section 4 describes the output data formats (
BINARY
or
ASCII
).
•
When in deployment mode (
autonomous
data collection; §3.1.3), the ADV outputs only the
burst header data through the serial port and is always in
ASCII
format (§Section 4).
•
The
ASCII
output format requires almost three times as many bytes as the
BINARY
format.
As such, when communicating at a baud rate of 9600, the ADV is not able to output
ASCII
data at 25 Hz. The data output requirements are greater than the communication rate can
handle. The maximum
ASCII
output rate when using 9600 baud is about 5 Hz. If higher
sampling rates are required, either use
BINARY
format or increase the baud rate (§4.2).
Setup
•
This command is equivalent to the
Start
command, except it does not start data collection.
•
Combining the
Setup
command with the
Go
command (below) accomplishes the same ac-
tions as the
Start
command. This combination can be used to precisely control the start
time for ADV sampling. While not required for most applications, this combination may be
useful in certain situations.
•
Note: This command is not listed in on-line help.
Go
•
Starts immediate data collection (i.e., enters data acquisition mode; §3.1.2).
•
This command should only be sent immediately after sending a
Setup
command (above).
•
The combination of
Setup
and
Go
can be used to precisely control the start time for ADV
sampling. The first sample will start within a few milliseconds of receiving the
Go
com-
mand. It is not required for most applications, but may be useful in certain situations.
•
Note: This command is not listed in on-line help.
