REP 2.1.13: Carrier Assembly

Removal
1.
Perform the following:
a.
REP 1.1: WorkCentre Cover on page 4-3
b.
REP 2.1.18: Printer Assembly on page 4-

CAUTION
During this procedure, be careful not to damage
the ribbon cable attached to the carriage
assembly.
2.
Remove the print head if present.
3.
Slide the carrier to the middle of the carriage
shaft. Making sure that no part of the carrier
assembly is below the ink level sensor.
4.
Remove the timing belt from the carriage
motor gear.
5.
Rotate each bushing so that their flat sides
are aligned with the sides of the slot on each
side frame.
6.
Remove the carriage shaft from printer side
frames.
NOTE: Expect moderate to heavy resistance
when removing bushings from printer side
frames.
7.
Remove the timing belt from the encoder
pulley (left end).
8.
Remove one of the bushings from the shaft.
9.
Remove the carrier from the shaft.
10. Unhook the cable from the cable edge

11. Slide the cable to the left through the 45° slot.
12. Pull the cable upward and out through the
slotted opening in the printer.
Replacement
1.
Insert the end of the ribbon cable through the
slotted opening in the printer approximately three inches.
2.
Gently maneuver the cable into the 45° slot until positioned
as shown in Figure 4-19.
3.
Pull the cable downward through the slotted
opening until the 45° fold is positioned as shown in Figure 4-19.
4.
Lock the cable beneath the cable edge restraints.
The printed side of the ribbon cable should be facing upward.
5.
Reinstall the carrier shaft into the carriage.
