Operating in APPI, APCI, and Dual APPI/APCI Modes
Pump and column connections to the APCI probe
To obtain an ion beam and tune the instrument for APPI mode
1. On the MassLynx Tune window, click Ion Mode > APPI+.
2. On the
APPI+ Source tab, set Repeller to 0 kV.
3. Manually advance the lamp drive assembly mounting shaft to indexing
indent 3.
Rationale:
This position gives the best compromise when first obtaining
an ion beam. Advancing the UV lamp further will increase the beam
intensity but is more likely to contaminate the lamp window.
4. Position the APCI probe so that it sprays midway between the lamp
window and the sample cone tip.
Caution:
Do not to touch the repeller electrode with the probe:
• A short circuit to the electrode would prevent proper ion
detection.
• The probe is hot and may damage the UV lamp assembly.
