LEDs
The VC-NIC features two LEDs that indicate data transmit, receive, and connection status for the adapter.
The connectivity LED is illuminated when properly connected to an ATM switch. The right LED blinks when the
card is transmitting cells; the center LED blinks when the card is receiving cells.
The following illustration (Figure 5-7) shows the LED indicators.

Galaxy ATM Software
The Galaxy ATM pre-installed software contains drivers that allow the H.320 codec in the Galaxy system to
operate on an ATM connection instead of an ISDN connection, mapping the video stream onto an AAL5
Variable Bit Rate service class.
MVIP Connector Cable
Data streams are passed from card to card within the Galaxy system by way of a ribbon cable and mass
termination connectors at each card. The Galaxy ATM kit includes an MVIP-bus-to-MVIP-bus ribbon cable.
Additional ATM Network Components Required
To conduct videoconferences over ATM, you need the following additional ATM components:
•
ATM workgroup switch (V-Switch or other FVC.COM-certified UNI 3.0-compliant ATM switch)
•
V-Gate (required for remote conferencing over ISDN)
