Chapter 5. Connecting Network Cables
5.4
After the settings are configured and the system is restarted, the green LED light for each line that is connected
should be constantly on. If the LEDs flicker, or do not show a constant On light, the ISDN service must be
checked.
ATM Connections
The Galaxy ATM option includes the following components installed in your system at the factory:
•
VC-NIC
™
adapter card
•
ATM drivers
To set up ATM connections, you will also need the following equipment:
•
ATM workgroup switch (V-Switch
™
or other FVC.COM-certified UNI 3.0-compliant ATM switch)
•
V-Gate
™
(required for remote conferencing over ISDN)
The ATM option enables the Galaxy system to conduct remote videoconferences over shared ISDN lines,
eliminating the need for an ISDN line at each endpoint.
VC-NIC Card
Three ports on the VC-NIC card enable the VC-NIC to switch between the PC bus, an ATM25 port, and an
on-board MVIP (multivendor interface protocol) port. The VC-NIC communicates with the Galaxy system
through MVIP to redirect the video stream to the ATM port instead of using bandwidth on the PC bus.
The following illustration (Figure 5-6) shows the major components of the VC-NIC:
