ECONOMICAL DRIVING
Fuel consumption is connected with a number of factors which make it
impossible to establish consuming parameters for a vehicle. In general, fuel
consumption depends on a variety of parameters. Vehicle type influence on
fuel consumption is related to tyre size, to ratio transmission - additional
accessories installed in it.
Thus, choice of a vehicle type is fundamental for fuel economy.
Vehicle adequate maintenance, in its turn, reflects on its performance. Lack
of a good maintenance, as well as inadequate maintenance, affects vehicle
performance, resulting in enhanced consumption. As far as operation
conditions are concerned, fuel consumption is influenced by regional
topography, traffic conditions and the proper vehicle loading. Vehicle operation
in mountain regions, in urban traffic or at short distances, at service with
frequent stops in the cold, all this increases fuel consumption. Excessive
loading affect performance considerably requiring a forced engine operation
and subsequently it results in major consumption. However, the most
elementary factor affecting the economy of fuel is a driving manner. For an
economical operation, vehicle should be driven in a careful manner, avoiding
frequent and unnecessary accelerations.
Vehicle speed should be compatible with traffic conditions, and the gears
should be selected in an estimating manner, to providing engine operation,
whenever possible, within the economical rotation regime.
NOTE: Factors that may contribute in reducing the consumption:
1- Maintain the vehicle operating without activation of the pedals.
2- Ensure the vehicle controllability in an estimating manner, keeping it in the
economical rotation regime.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BREAKING-IN
NOTE: The instructions are valid for new and reconditioned engines.
Inspite of modern methods used in production and despite a precise operation
of engine, transmission and other vehicle components, breaking-in of the parts
during the first hours of operation features peculiar characteristics that should
be taken into account.
Therefore, it is fundamental take certain precautions during the first 2 000 km to
obtain a perfect parts adjustment.
See some of the following orientations:
a) Do not maintain continuous uniform accelerations for a long time. Impart
occasional accelerations, changing the vehicle speed several times during the
first drivings.
b) Do not exceed the speed limits established for each gear.
c) Check if the engine temperature is in the range of 77 to 95°
d) Avoid the engine operation in low-rotation or excessively accelerated regime
for a long time.
