13 Copper Testing
181
What’s new?
If your OneExpert is configured and optioned to do so, the following features are now
available:
• OneCheck TDR
– The OneCheck TDR allows you to use the OneExpert to locate the
Copper faults and automatically identify them.
• UltraFED Control
– If you are running TDR, RFL, Multimeter, or TIMS tests using
a UFEDII or UFEDIIB as a far end device, you can now control the device from your
instrument. For details, see
“Testing with an UltraFED far end device” on page 208
.
• Wideband Balance Sweep
– This feature regulates how well a copper pair rejects
noise.
• Wideband Sweep Loss
– This feature measures attenuation (loss) at different
frequencies.
• Resistive Balance
– This feature allows the user to test and compare the resistance
of each lead used as a pair with ground as the reference. The result can be used to
determine if there are any bad splices. Resistive Balance requires the Viavi UltraFED
or a manual strap to ground at the far end.
• Crosstalk TDR (for ONX-580P only)
– This new mode for TDR is used to locate
where one pair is “split” or cross connected with another. It requires identifying
which pairs are involved, connecting the ONX Yellow/Blue and Red/Black leads to
these pairs, and running the Crosstalk TDR.
The trace will show where the pairs are “split” and “re-split”. The pulse is sent on the
Yellow/Blue leads and listens on the Red/Black leads.
• OneCheck Copper Good Pair
– This test checks the quality of a pair by running
voltage, resistance, capacitance and other tests. It gives a Pass/Fail assessment for
each test configured to run.
• OneCheck Copper with UFEDIIB
– Same as the first test, but we are also using the
Viavi UltraFED to achieve two ended testing, which is required for tests like resistive
balance, tone loss, etc.
• Copper Expert
– This is an interactive copper line testing and troubleshooting
application that runs a series of consecutive tests, allowing the user to find and fix
problems in the process.
• OneCheck Copper Editor
– This application provides access to all profile
management tasks.
NOTE:
In order to convert capacitance (Opens), resistance, and TDR
results to the correct length for your country, make sure your
country and type of cable are selected in the
System Settings / International menu. See Configuring
International Settings on page xx.
