sampled measurement during an
ACON Ultra
operation, is determined by the current placement of
Zone42
of the Convergence Test Point Set. Further, the “Visibility Settings” used during the
measurement are the current settings for Convergence
Zone42
. If the
ACON Ultra
software is
having problems correctly identifying a test pattern, the settings for
Zone42
should be adjusted. For
instance, the current location of
Zone42
may place the field of view too close to the CRT glare (or
some other glare) for the test pattern measurements to be taken. In this instance, the test point
should be moved further away from the glare. If the current visibility settings of
Zone42
are too high
to allow the test pattern measurements to be taken, the controls should be changed to lower the
peak intensity of the projection for the zone.
Similar Installations.
The primary relationships are built within the first 19 steps of the Auto Setup
procedure. After these steps have been performed, unless major changes are made to the
hardware relationships, the Primaries do not need to be re-calculated. If a system configuration
(contained within the “.SAV” file) has been completed, then that system configuration can be copied
onto a similar projector system and the primaries do not have to be recalculated. Consider the
following two examples.
Example 1.
If a company first assembles a simulator in a laboratory environment and
completely configures the
AU
system then the simulator is later re-assembled at a
customer’s site, the values for the Primary relationships should not have to be re-
calculated.
Example 2.
If a company completely configures the
AU
system on a specific installation of a
simulator, that system configuration (contained within the “.SAV” file) can be copied to the
next installation and, assuming the mechanical components of the simulator are equivalent
(under normal manufacturing specs), the Primary relationships should not have to be
recalculated.
There are boundaries to the amount of variation that is acceptable although there are no numerical
limits attached to the acceptable variation which defines a “similar installation”. If a system is
believed to be similar, copy the system configuration from the initial installation and if the system is
capable of identifying the two test patterns (performed as the first step in any of the Calibration
tasks, the Memorize task, and any Correction tasks), then the two installations are “similar”. If the
attempts to identify the test patterns fail, the two installations are not similar, and the system will not
be able to progress past identification of the correct test pattern.
NOTE:
Running the Auto Setup Procedure will reposition all convergence test points and all Center
and Screen test points. If the test point locations have already been configured, the settings
should be exported to script files then imported back after the Auto Setup routine has rebuilt
the Initial TP setups.
2.3.4
Test Point Locations
After a projector has been optimally setup (physically and electronically),
AU
can be used to
memorize, and then later to correct for small changes in the geometry and convergence that occur on
a day to day basis. Before a memorization can take place,
AU
must be taught three sets of test
points.
For each list, two vital points of information must be established before any meaningful
measurements can be taken: the motor coordinates and the Image quality settings of the Test Point.
The motor coordinates are the
X, Y
pair indicating the specific setting of the indexer pan and tilt
motors. This establishes the camera field of view within a desired region of the projected raster (as
observed on the facet).
