When recording and editing on the HDD, is
edited point played back seamlessly, or is there
any a moment of pause before going ahead?
Also what about the case when editing with
DVD?
Due to the characteristics of MPEG2, the portion
that is divided and connected during editing
process cannot be played back seamlessly.
MPEG2 compression is done by the unit called
GOP, which is several frames, and this unit is also
used for reproducing the image. Editing process
can be performed for every frame, but GOP
remains after edition is completed, containing
frames that are used for editing. To start playback
from a certain frame after editing, the system must
reproduce GOP containing lost frame, and it also
reproduces the frames that are not played back.
This causes a delay in the replay operation for
some frames, resulting in pause of the image during
transitions between chapters. The edited version is
played back almost in the same quality as either the
internal HDD or the DVD-RAM disc.
Copy
I have no problem copying from HDD to DVD-
RAM, but can I also copy programs that restrict
duplication?
Programs that restrict duplication apply the Copy
Once or Copy Never feature. You can not copy the
Copy Never program at all, but you cancopy the
Copy Once program on the HDD or DVD-RAM. For
copying, you can only move from HDD to DVD-
RAM. You cannot move from DVD-RAM to HDD.
(Move indicates that you delete the source copy,
and create a new copy on the target location.)
Dubbing
Can I record from and to a connected VCR?
Yes. You can conveniently use the input terminal
located on the front of the unit to record from an
external VCR.
Compatibility
Can I play back still pictures recorded on a
DVD-RAM camera?
In principle, you can play back the image that is
recorded in the DVD VR (Video Recording) format.
If you have both moving pictures and still pictures
mixed, you can play back, but can not edit them,
even if they are in the required format. You cannot
copy to HDD either. To use as a part, you need to
delete all the still pictures on the DVD-RAM camera
beforehand.
Can I record DVD-RAM at Linear PCM and play
back it on a DVD-RAM recorder of other
manufacturers?
L-PCM (Linear PCM) is a part of the DVD VR
(Video Recording) standards, and you can play
back L-PCM as long as it complies with the
standards. Contact the manufacturer of your DVD
recorder to check if it supports the standards, as we
cannot guarantee the performance of other
manufacturer’s equipment.
Due to the characteristics of media, sound may not
be played back correctly, depending on the physical
condition of the disc and recording conditions.
