2.1.4 Built-in emergency power supply (UPS battery)
The MIRUS Controller is equipped with an internal emergency power supply (UPS battery). If
the mains power supply fails, the emergency power supply is automatically activated and
bridges the time until the mains power supply is restored (see information in Chapter 8.2).
Inhalation sedation can be continued with limited functionality. If the charge level of the
emergency battery is too low, this may cause a premature outage of the MIRUS Controller,
thereby putting the patient at risk of underdosing.
Ensure that the emergency battery is sufficiently charged.
Storage of the MIRUS Controller for a prolonged period without charging the emergency
battery periodically may cause damage to the device.
Store the MIRUS Controller with a fully charged emergency battery.
Connect the MIRUS Controller to the mains power supply for a minimum of 24 hours
every 4 weeks
2.1.5 Positioning
The MIRUS Controller has an internal reservoir with liquid volatile anaesthetic. If liquid
anaesthetic were to enter the gas flow due to tilting of the MIRUS Controller, this would put the
patient at risk of overdosing. To prevent such a situation, the MIRUS Controller has a position
sensor which pauses the administration of volatile anaesthetic when a defined inclination angle
is reached. The user is alerted. Pausing the application may put the patient at risk of
underdosing.
Only use the MIRUS Controller when it is in a stable, horizontal position.
If the MIRUS Controller is tilted, reposition it horizontally and wait a minimum of 10
seconds before restarting administration. This ensures that no liquid can enter the gas
flow.
2.1.6 Use of volatile anaesthetics
The handling and use of volatile anaesthetics can pose a risk to the patient and other persons.
Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions for handling the volatile anaesthetic.
Pay attention to the indications and contraindications specified by the manufacturer of
the volatile anaesthetic.
Only use the volatile anaesthetic that is intended for the MIRUS Controller.
Never bypass the encoded filling system of the MIRUS Controller.
Do not reuse drained volatile anaesthetic. Dispose of it properly.
