11 SCSI Interface Specification
The autoloader has a standard SCSI interface. This chapter provides requirements and specifications
for the SCSI interface, including information about the following:
n
Cable requirements
n
SCSI terminator requirements
n
SCSI communications
n
Elements and element addresses
NOTE:
The autoloader and the enclosed tape drive are independent SCSI devices. This chapter
provides information about how the autoloader (which includes the cartridge loader,
carousel, and cartridge slots) supports SCSI communications.
The autoloader conforms to the Ultra2 SCSI specification and is provided with additional comments to
possible changes in SCSI 3.
11.1 Cable and Terminator Requirements
One SCSI cable and one terminator are included with the autoloader. Additional cables and
terminators can be ordered from the manufacturer.
NOTE:
The LVD SCSI interface is compatible with single-ended SCSI bus.
11.1.1 SCSI Cable Requirements
The manufacturer recommends using 68-pin SCSI cables that conform to SCSI-3 specifications.
CAUTION
All wide SCSI configurations (single-ended, LVD, and HVD) use the same
68-pin connector. Attaching the LVD autoloader directly to an HVD SCSI
bus may cause the SCSI bus to hang.

IMPORTANT
To comply with the safety and regulatory agency standards listed in Chapter 4,
all SCSI cables you use with the autoloader must be properly shielded.
