DANGER
DURING BOOM LIFTING AND EXTENSION OPERA-
TIONS, CAREFULLY CHECK THAT THE YELLOW ANTI-
TIPPING ALERT LIGHT DOES NOT GO ON (38 IN FIG.
44 – ATP PLUS STANDARD) FOLLOWED BY THE RED
LIGHT (38 IN FIG. 44 – ATP PLUS STANDARD).
IF THE ATP PLUS VERSION IS FEATURED WITH AN OP-
TIONAL VISIO TERMINAL, REFER TO SCREEN 4, SEC-
TION «4.3.4 OPTIONAL VISIO TERMINAL FEATURES».
THIS SECTION ILLUSTRATES THE DIFFERENT LEVELS
THAT INDICATE A CRITICAL POINT BEYOND WHICH A
RISK OF TIPPING EXISTS.
IF THE RED LIGHT GOES ON, LOWER THE HOOK AND
BRING THE BOOM BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION
TO PREVENT POSSIBLE MACHINE TIP-OVER.
After the operation has been completed, stop the machine as
instructed in section «4.4.3 PIPE LAYER SHUT DOWN».
4.5.1 BOOM AND HOOK MOVEMENTS
If the boom needs to be re-installed, follow the instructions
provided in section «4.7 Installation of boom and blocks».
After
fi
tting the boom following the instructions for starting up and operating the pipe layer lifting operations
can be started.
DANGER
Load lifting and handling operations can be very dangerous if great care is not taken in carrying
them out. Ask unauthorized persons to move away from the area. Clear and fence the lifting/han-
dling area.
Ensure that the work area is clear and that there is enough “run-away space”, namely a free and
safe area to quickly move to, should the load fall down.
During operation the hook is subjected to mechanical and thermal stress, which over time inevitably leads
to hook deformations and strain hardening.
In special working conditions (wet, corrosive, high temperatures, etc.) surface wearing can be signi
fi
-
cant.
An excessively heavy load can cause deformations. This is why the capacity shown in the “load capacity”
table in section «1.4 Technical speci
fi
cations» must never be exceeded.
Deformations are also caused by unbalanced distribution of the load which must always be applied on
the hook throat and not on the tip. The harness cables or chains must be uniformly distributed along the
internal surface of the hook.
As for stain hardening and any other alterations in the steel structure, these are mainly caused by me-
chanical and thermal stresses. Quick temperature shifts from cold to hot and extremely cold weather can
damage the hooks.
