4.4 PIPE LAYER OPERATION
WARNING
When operating the machine for the fi rst time we recommend letting the engine run at minimum
revolutions.
- The operator must be aware of the stability features of the machine and the conditions of the
work area before starting operation.
- When work is done in dark conditions, all the available lights must be lit. The machine is supplied
with lights on three sides (8 & 17 in Fig. 21). Make sure all the light bulbs are in good condition. If
they are not, replace them immediately.
- Do not leave the machine unattended if the engine is running.
- Before starting the machine, carefully carry out the required daily tests.
- Before starting the machine, make sure that the work area, which is considered as a danger zone,
is clear and that there are no persons, animals or obstacles around it.
DANGER
BEFORE STARTING MACHINE OPERATION, CHECK THAT
THE AREA IS CLEAR FROM ELECTRICAL AND TELE-
PHONE LINES OR ANY OTHER POTENTIAL DANGER OR
OBSTACLE (Fig. 37).
ALWAYS KEEP AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM OVERHEAD
ELECTRICAL CABLES.
For greater safety, the operator must:
- be familiar with the work area and the operations that he is
going to start;
- examine the entire work area before starting lifting the
boom;
- always keep in mind that electrical cables are dangerous and
have a magnetic effect on steel parts;
- electrical current is always grounded when a circuit is for-
med.
DANGER
IF THE SIDE BOOM ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHES ELECTRICAL CABLES, THE ENTIRE FRAME IS
ELECTRIFIED AND ANY PERSON WHO TOUCHES THE MACHINE MAY BE HIT BY A FATAL ELEC-
TRICAL SHOCK.
DANGER
IN BAD WEATHER OR EXTREMELY WET CONDITIONS DO NOT OPERATE THE MACHINE NEAR
ELECTRICAL CABLES: A SHORT CIRCUIT MAY HAPPEN EVEN WITHOUT DIRECT CONTACT WITH
THE CABLES.
IN STORMY WEATHER DO NOT OPERATE THE MACHINE: THE SIDE BOOM MAY ACT AS A LIGHT-
NING ATRACTING ROD.
THE EQUIPMENT MAY GET CHARGED WITH THE ELECTRICITY PRESENT NEAR HIGH FREQUEN-
CY TRANSMITTERS.
