Istruction Manual for Operation and Maintenance
SPX-960
:
5.1 GENERAL
Maintenance is a set of periodic and prede
fi
ned operations intended to preserve all the machine featu-
res and functionalities which may be lost due to wear caused by machine operation.
In this section the user will
fi
nd a description of scheduled maintenance operations. Needless to say,
compliance with the instructions provided in this manual results in less maintenance and lower operation
costs as well as a longer machine life.
Contact the Manufacturer for unscheduled maintenance that is not described in this manual.
5.1.1 PRELIMINARY REMARKS ON LUBRICANTS AND COOLANTS
OIL
When replacing components or changing lubricant and oil, use genuine SCAIP parts.
When changing or topping up the oil, do not use different oil types. If a new oil type is
fi
lled,
fi
rst drain all
the existing oil in the tank and
fi
ll the tank with the new oil. Replace the oil
fi
lter as well. (Traces of the
existing oil in the piping which mix with the new oil do not represent a problem).
• Oil used in the engine and pipe layer gets deteriorated more quickly in especially hard operating condi-
tions (high temperature, high pressure).
In these cases, use oil which has the grade and temperature speci
fi
cations required. Refer to the oil
table in the Instruction Manual for Maintenance and Operation.
Change the oil at the recommended intervals even if it is not fouled.
• The oil to the machine is like blood to the human body: for this reason do not let it get fouled with impu-
rities (water, metal particles, dirt, etc.).
Most of the operating problems with machinery are caused by impurities in the oil.
Take all the measures required to prevent impurities from fouling the oil during storage or top-up opera-
tions.
• Do not mix oils of different types and brands.
• Fill the required amount of oil. Excessive or insuf
fi
cient oil may cause problems.
• If the oil in the equipment is not clean, water or air are likely to have accessed the circuit. Address the
Manufacturer if this is the case.
• When changing the oil replace the oil
fi
lter as well. When the engine oil
fi
lter is replaced,
fi
ll the new
fi
lter
with fresh and clean oil as instructed. Then, install the
fi
lter.
FUEL
• Re
fi
ll the fuel tank at the end of every working day in order to prevent moist in the air to get condensed
and turn into water in the fuel tank.
• The fuel pump is a sensitive pump. If the fuel used contains water or dirt, the pump will not work cor-
rectly.
• Take all the measures required to prevent impurities from fouling the fuel during storage or re
fi
lling.
• In special temperature conditions (especially below -15°C) fuel may freeze. In these cases,
fi
ll the engine
with a fuel that can resist such low temperatures.
• Before starting the engine, or 10 minutes after re
fi
lling, drain any deposits or water from the fuel tank.
• Drain any air from the fuel circuit if the machine runs out of fuel or whenever the
fi
lters are replaced.
• Wash the fuel tank and circuit whenever foreign matter is identi
fi
ed in the fuel tank.
• Fill the tank with diesel fuel only.
