2.4.10 PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO OPERA-
TION
• Run an inspection on the entire machine before starting
operations. Under no circumstances should unsafe, da-
maged, machines requiring servicing be operated. Non-
performance of the inspection before starting operations
may cause damage to the machine or accidents to the
operator or personnel.
• Before operating the machine check that no person, animal
or obstacle is within the machine outreach.
• Do not ignite the engine if there are warning messages on
the wheel or control levers.
• Blow the horn before starting the engine or moving the
machine in order to inform the other persons in the work
area.
• Operate the machine from the control station only: fasten
your seat belts.
• Do not let anyone access the control station or climb on the
machine during operation.
• Before starting any operation, check that personnel walk
away from the work area.
2.4.11 HAZARDS AT WORK
• Before carrying out any operation, it is important to be aware
of existing hazards. Before starting operation, contact the
local utility company(ies) in order to identify and locate
any underground piping, such as gas and water pipes or
electrical line runways (Fig. 13).
• Make sure that the work area is as leveled as possible.
Ensure that there is no obstacle to equipment or machine
maneuvering. Do not work in steep gradients (Fig. 14).
• Constantly be aware of all the hazards or distracting factors
on site.
2.5 ECOLOGY AND POLLUTION
• Comply with noise pollution rules and regulations.
• Replace the engine exhaust pipe, if it is worn or if it produces
higher noise levels than standard. The new exhaust pipe
must be genuine by SCAIP.
• ENGINE EXHAUST GASES ARE HIGHLY TOXIC AND
MAY CAUSE DISEASES OR EVEN DEATH.
