ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE OPTIONS
9.3.4 Fine Tuning with the Software
Connect PC and interferometer as described in section 6.3. Select 'Display' in the main
menu. Activate 'Adjustment' in the 'Measurement' section. Monitor the graph in the middle
while running the reflector along the axis. The green an blue crosses should not move
more than 500µm in the diagram for the entire length of the axis. The distance between the
two middle points should be less than 800µm.
If any of the movements exceed these factors, then the reflector and deflector need to be
aligned again. Tweak the shift-adapter on the IK1 for a correction of the points in the
graph in vertical direction, on the RK1 this tweak on the adapter corrects the space
between the points in horizontal direction.
In the case of an overall movement greater than 500µm put the RK1 directly in front of the
laser. Adjust the laser with the parallel-shift adapter until the crosses are approx. cen-
tered in the middle of the diagram. Run the RK1 to the end of the axis. If the shift is still
greater than 500µm, adjust the angle on the interferometer.
After successfully aligning the system click 'Menu' to return to the main menu.
9.3.3 Adjusting Optics to each other
By turning the IK1 laterally (at the point of fixture), you can adjust the line of the laser
beam horizontally. In combination, twist the RK1 (at its point of fixture)vertically up or
down until the beam hits the target point on the RK1.
Now open the target points on the IK1 and RK1 by turning the lens 90° to its vertical posi-
tion. The reflected laser beam should now hit the target on the interferometer. If all is
good, open the lens on the interferometer (vertical position). If need be, minutely adjust all
three elements (laser, deflector and reflector) until the beam reflects back, hitting the
middle of the target on the interferometer.
Start backwards at the reflector before adjusting the laser source. Adjusting the latter will
naturally influence the angle to the other elements. We can now turn to fine tuning with
the software.
