6.4.4 Aligning the Interferometer/Positioning the Reflector RL1
Fig. 15 shows the front side of the interferometer.
The top image shows the laser head ready for
measurement, the bottom image ready for align-
ment. Turn the head accordingly so that the two
white target points are horizontal for alignment.
Do likewise for the reflector element.
Fix the reflector element to the axis of traverse
(guideway, bearing way, rail, column etc.). In
order to align along the entire length of the axis
in one fell swoop, start at the beginning of the
traverse, close to the laser and gradually
progress away form it. Adjust the reflector so
that it hits the white target in the middle as
shown in fig. 16. Use the fixtures as described in
section 4.2.
Move the reflector along the axis. The beam will
move away from the middle of the target,
depending on deviation as shown in fig. 17.
