FEATURES OF THE SYSTEM BUILD

6.4.3 Positioning the interferometer

Place the interferometer facing the axis of measurement (either on the guideway itself or
in front of it). Allow enough room for the interferometer element in order to measure the
whole length.

You can either use a tripod or attach the interferometer's magnetic sliding frame to the
axis.

Align the interferometer parallel to the axis by rough rule of thumb. To get a good approxi-
mation you can insert a sheet of paper between beam and axis at two distant points along
the axis (see fig. 13, a1 and a2 ). Do not turn the adjusting screws for this coarse align-
ment.

The laser head has a build-in inclinometer – a digital
spirit level. In the software in section 'Measurement' in
the display menu tick the box at laser head to display
the data.

Note that this data is not correct if the inclination is
too great. It should be used as a guide to approximate
 levelling.
