Appendix E – PC USB Device Drivers
Installing USB Device Drivers On The PC
To install USB device drivers under Windows XP, follow the instructions below. Please read through all
the instructions before beginning.
The USB Device Drivers are only necessary if you plan to connect
your instrument to the PC using a USB cable
.
Do
not
plug the instrument into the Windows XP USB port until instructed below.
1.
You must install the PC Data Acquisition Software before following this procedure
, as the
procedure uses files that are part of that installation. See Section 2 – PC Data Acquisition Software –
Sub-section 1. INSTALLATION above installation instructions.
2.
If you are re-installing the USB drivers, the original drivers need to be first uninstalled. Please refer to
the Removing USB Device Drivers section below for details of this procedure.
3.
If your Windows XP machine is connected to a network, temporarily disconnect from that network.
This will prevent the Windows “Found New Hardware Wizard” from automatically connecting to the
Windows Update website, and downloading and installing the wrong drivers for the instrument.
4.
Connect the instrument to a spare USB port on your PC, and power-up the instrument. This will
launch the Windows “Found New Hardware Wizard”. If there is no available Internet connection or
if Windows XP SP 2 is configured to ask before connecting to Windows Update, the screen below is
shown. Select "No, not this time" from the options available and then click "Next" to proceed with
the installation.
