The use of any accessory or any component not recom-
mended by Somfy is prohibited, on safety grounds.
Any failure to comply with the instructions given in this man-
ual shall exempt Somfy from all liability, and invalidate the
SOMFY warranty.
If in any doubt when installing the drive, or to obtain additional
information, visit the website www.somfy.com.
The instructions may be modified if and when there is a change
in the standards or the drive.
1.3. Preliminary checks
1.3.1. Installation environment
ATTENTION
Do not spray water onto the drive.
Do not install the drive in an explosive environment.
Check that the temperature range marked on the drive is
suited to the installation location.
1.3.2. Condition of the gate to be motorised
Do not motorise a gate which is in poor working order or has
been incorrectly installed.
Before installing the drive, check that:
• the gate is in good mechanical condition
• the gate is stable regardless of its position
• the structures supporting the gate allow the drive to be
mounted securely. Reinforce these if necessary.
• the gate can be opened and closed properly using a force
of less than 150 N.
1.4. Risk prevention
WARNING
Risk prevention -
hinged gate drive for residential use
Ensure that any danger zones (crushing, cutting, trap-
ping) between the driven section and the surrounding
fixed sections created by the opening of the driven section
are prevented, or indicated on the installation.
Permanently affix the crushing warning labels near any
fixed control devices or so that they are clearly visible to
the user.

RISKS
SOLUTION
ZONE 1
Risk of crushing when
closing
Obstacle detection must be con-
firmed as compliant with Ap-
pendix A of standard EN 12 453:
• either by the obstacle de-
tection system built into the
drive
• or by installing an active
safety edge
ZONE 2
Risk of cutting or crushing
between the gate leaf and
any adjoining fixed sec-
tions
Obstacle detection must be con-
firmed as compliant with Ap-
pendix A of standard EN 12 453:
• either by the obstacle de-
tection system built into the
drive
• or by protection via safety
distances (see figure 1)
ZONE 3
Risk of crushing with an
adjoining fixed section
upon opening
Obstacle detection must be con-
firmed as compliant with Ap-
pendix A of standard EN 12 453:
• either by the obstacle de-
tection system built into the
drive
• or by mechanical protection
(see figure 2)
• or by eliminating any gap ≥
8 mm or ≤ 25 mm
ZONE 4
Risk of crushing between
the secondary edges and
adjoining fixed sections
Obstacle detection must be con-
firmed as compliant with Ap-
pendix A of standard EN 12 453:
• either by the obstacle de-
tection system built into the
drive
• or by eliminating any gap ≥
8 mm or ≤ 50 mm
No protection is required if the gate has continuous control
or if the danger zone is more than 2.5 m above ground or any
other permanent access level.
