Magnetic loop detector

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1.1. General

Always read the installation guide before installing this Somfy product.
Please also read the safety instructions of the motorisation associated
with this product.

This Somfy product must be installed by a professional motorisation and
home automation installer, for whom this guide is intended.

Moreover, the installer must comply with the standards and legislation
in force in the country in which the product is being installed, and inform
his customers of the conditions for use and maintenance for the product.

Any use outside the sphere of application speciﬁed by Somfy is forbidden.

This invalidates the warranty and discharges Somfy of all liability, as does
any failure to comply with the instructions given herein.

SOMFY cannot be held responsible for any changes in norms and stand-
ards that come into eﬀect aer the publication of these instructions.

1.2. Installation

Before installation, check that this Somfy product is compatible with the
associated equipment and accessories.

The installation must be carried out with the power oﬀ.

For drilling operations, wear special glasses and suitable protection. Use
the appropriate tools.

1.3. Declaration of conformity

Somfy hereby declares that the product described in these instructions
complies with the essential requirements and other relevant provisions of
European directives applicable to the European Union.

2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

2.1. Description

The metal detector combined with a magnetic loop allows the presence of
a vehicle to be detected close to the barrier.

3. INSTALLATION

3.1. Installation Instructions

• The detector must be installed in the housing of the barrier, as close

as possible to the magnetic loop.

• The loop and the power supply line must consist of an insulated

copper wire with a 1.5 mm² cross section.

• The insulated conductors must have at least 20 twists per metre.
• Joints are not advised. Welding is preferable in order to avoid losses.

Faulty joints could cause the detector to operate incorrectly. Power
supply lines subject to electrical disturbances must use shielded
cables between the detector and the earth.

• The loop can be square or rectangular with a minimum distance of 1

metre between the opposite sides.
In general, 3 wire coils are used per loop. Large loops with a cir-
cumference of more than 10 metres will use 2 windings while small
loops with a circumference of less than 6 metres will use 4 wind-
ings.
When two loops are used close to one another, you are recommend-
ed to use 3 windings in one and 4 in the other in order to avoid
crosstalk.
The magnetic loop (9020724) consists of 3 windings.

• Crosstalk is a term used to describe interference between two ad-

jacent loops. To ensure the detector operates correctly, one of the
loops must be at least 2 metres longer with a diﬀerent frequency
setting.

3.2. Installing the loop and the power supply line

Make a cut in the road about 4 mm wide and 30 mm to 50 mm deep.
Make a 45° cut on the corners to avoid damaging the electrical wire.

Do not forget to extend the cut from one corner of the road to the other
to house the power supply line.
