HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
Table Adjustment
To reduce the risk of kickbacks and to increase the qual-
ity of cuts, it is important that the table and spindle
are perpendicular to each other in all directions. Use a
machinist's square or other precision square when check-
ing/adjusting these components to ensure accurate results
(see
Figures 52 & 53
).
To make the table and spindle perpendicular, do these
steps:
1. DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2. Remove the fence assembly and fence mount.
3. Raise the spindle all the way up, and bring the tilt to
exactly 0°.
Note:
It is important that the tilt dial read exactly
0° so that table adjustments are accurate in rela-
tion to the spindle.
4.
Remove the locking fasteners, spacers, and cutters
from the spindle.
5. Position a machinist square flat on the table and up
against the spindle (see
Figure 52
).
6.
Adjust the tilt of the table as required by doing
these steps:
a. Start at one corner of the table and loosen the
bottom jam nut (see
Figure 54
).
b.
Rotate the top adjusting nut to raise or lower
the head of the hex bolt and that corner of the
table.
c.
Take a reading with the machinist square in
the direction of that corner, and make further
adjustments as necessary.
d.
Re-tighten the bottom jam nut.
7.
Repeat
Steps 5–6
as necessary for all corners of the
table until the table and spindle are perpendicular in
all directions.
