HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
To lubricate the spindle tilt worm gear, do these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Lower the spindle to its lowest point, and tilt it to
+45°.
NOTICE
To avoid V-belt slippage during operation, DO NOT get
any lubricant on the V-belt or pulleys. If any lubricant
does get on the V-belt or pulleys during the lubrica-
tion process, remove the V-belt, thoroughly clean the
pulleys, and install a new V-belt.
3.
Open the front motor access door and locate the
spindle tilt worm gear, as shown in
Figure 46
.
4.
Use mineral spirits and a clean rag to clean the
worm gear.
5.
Brush on a thin coat of white lithium grease on the
entire length of the worm gear.
6.
Close the motor access door, and tilt the spindle
back and forth through the entire range—this will
distribute the lubricant evenly.
To lubricate the quill and gear box, do these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Lower the spindle all the way, and tilt it to +45°.
3.
Open the motor access door and identify the quill
support grease cap, as shown in
Figure 47
.
4.
Unscrew and remove the grease cap from the spout
on the quill support.
