HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
To set up the fence for partial edge removal, do these
steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Adjust the infeed fence to the desired depth of cut
and lock it in place.
3.
Use a straightedge to adjust the outfeed fence even
with the infeed fence.
4.
Adjust both fence boards as close to the cutter as
possible without interfering with the cutter rotation.
Note:
Make sure all fence mount and fence board
locking levers are securely tightened, and the safety
guard is in place before starting the shaper opera-
tion.
5.
Re-connect the power and turn the shaper
ON
.
6.
Run a test piece through the shaper to verify the cut
(see
Figure 34
).
Always cut the end grain first when putting an edge
around the entire parameter of your workpiece, as illus-
trated in
Figure 35
.
Always feed the workpiece against the rotation of the
cutter, as illustrated in
Figure 36
. In other words, always
feed the workpiece into the cutter so that the cutter is
pushing against the direction of feed. Never feed the
workpiece in the same direction as the cutter rotation.
This is called a "climb cut" and is extremely dangerous.
Also, examine the grain on the workpiece sides. Whenever
possible, run the board so the cutter is cutting with the
grain, as illustrated in
Figure 36
. This will minimize the
chance of tear out.

The sound of this shaper when it is running may be
less than other devices that are in operation, such as
a dust collector. Because of this, it may be difficult
to determine if the shaper is
ON
merely by listening.
You MUST be certain that this machine is
OFF
and the
cutter is at a complete stop before attempting any
set up or adjustment. Otherwise, serious personal
injury could occur.
