If any of the status items in the table above are enabled, the printer
transmits the status when this command is executed. The printer
automatically transmits the status whenever the enabled status item
changes. The disabled status items may change, in this case, because
each status transmission represents the current status.
If all status items are disabled, the ASB function is also disabled.
If the ASB is enabled as a default, the printer transmits the status when
the
printer data reception and transmission is possible at the first time from
when the printer is turned on.
The following four status bytes are transmitted without confirming whether
the host is ready to receive data. The four status bytes must be
consecutive, except for the XOFF code.
Since this command is executed after the data is processed in the receive
buffer, there may be a time lag between data reception and status
transmission.
When the printer is disabled by ESC = (Select peripheral device), the four
status bytes are transmitted whenever the status changes.
When using DLE EOT, GS I II I, or GS r, the status transmitted by these
commands and ASB status must be differentiated, according to the
procedure in Appendix G, Transmission Status Identification.
