OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
General Operating
Recommendations
Rough Water or Poor Visibility
Operation
Avoid operation in these conditions. If
you must do so, proceed with caution
and prudence using minimum speed.
Turn on navigation lights if necessary.
Night Operation
Between sunset and sunrise, use the
navigation lights and reduce speed.
WARNING
Navigation lights should always
be
used between sunset and
sunrise. Ensure the stern light
is installed. See
STERN LIGHT
SOCKET
in this section for loca-
tion and installation.
Crossing Waves
Reduce speed when crossing waves.
Always be prepared to steer and bal-
ance as necessary.
When crossing wakes, always keep a
safe distance from boat ahead.
WARNING
When crossing wakes, slow down.
Operator and passenger(s) can
brace themselves by posting. Do
not jump waves or wakes.
Stopping/Docking
The boat is slowed by water drag. The
stopping distance will vary depending
on the boat's size, speed, water sur-
face condition, presence and direction
of wind and current.
The operator should become familiar
with the stopping distance under dif-
ferent conditions.
Reduce throttle speed to idle. Shift to
neutral, reverse or forward as required
when approaching a dock then shut off
the engines just before coming along-
side.
WARNING
Directional control is reduced
when throttle is decreased and lost
when engines are off.
When close to the dock, shut off the
engines.
WARNING
While engines can be stopped by
pressing the Start/Stop buttons,
we strongly recommend the en-
gines be stopped by removing the
tether cord. This will install good
habits.
Docking
The operator should also practice dock-
ing with an imaginary dock using the
throttle/shifter lever. A docking mode
is also available to help you during the
procedure, see
DOCKING MODE
for
more informations.
Decrease the throttle at a sufficient
distance before the expected landing
area.
Reduce speed to idle.
Maneuver using the throttle/shifter
lever, shifting to neutral, reverse, or
forward as required.
Remember that when operating in re-
verse, steering direction is reversed.
Turning the steering to the left will
move the stern to the right when back-
ing up, and vice-versa.
WARNING
Directional control is reduced
when the throttle is decreased and
lost when engines are off. Steer-
ing direction is reversed when op-
erating the boat in reverse.
