Entering and Modifying Text
Use the onscreen keyboard or an Apple Wireless Keyboard to enter text.
Typing Text
Tap a text field to open the onscreen keyboard and then tap letters. If you touch the wrong key, slide
your finger to the correct key. A letter is entered when you release your finger from the key.
To …
Do this:
End a sentence with a
period and space quickly
Double-tap the space bar.
Enter uppercase text
Tap
Shift
to type uppercase or touch the
Shift
key and slide to a letter. Double-tap
Shift
to engage caps lock. To enter numbers, punctuation, or symbols, tap the

Touch and hold a key and then slide to choose one of the options.
Note:
If you see a word underlined in red, tap it to see suggested corrections. If the word you want is not
displayed, type the correction.
Working with Predictive Text
As you enter text, the keyboard will predict your next word. Tap a word to choose it, or accept a
highlighted prediction by entering a space or punctuation mark. When you tap a suggested word, a
space appears after the word. If you enter a comma, period, or other punctuation mark, the space is
deleted.

Do this:
Reject a suggestion
Tap your original word, which is shown as the predictive text option with quotation
marks.
Hide predictive text
Pull down the suggested words. If you want to see the suggestions again, drag the
bar up.
Turn off predictive text
Touch and hold or , and then slide to
Predictive
.
Correcting Misspelled Words
Even if you turn off predictive text, the keyboard will continue to suggest corrections for misspelled
words.

Do this:
Accept a correction
Enter a space or punctuation, or tap
Return

Reject a correction
Tap the “
x
.” If you reject the same suggestion a few times, it will no longer be
suggested.
