Acceptable cleaning/
disinfecting agents
Before using a cleaning/disinfecting solution on the
meter, base unit, or accessory box refer to the product
labeling for required contact time for cleaning/disinfect-
ing and to ensure that the active ingredients are accepta-
ble for use. Prepare all solutions per the manufacturer’s
product labeling.
Acceptable active ingredients are listed below.
Recommended cleaning agents
■
mild soapy water
■
70 % (or less) solution of isopropyl alcohol in water
■
0.625 % (or less) solution of sodium hypochlorite in
water
Recommended disinfecting agents
■
0.625 % (or less) solution of sodium hypochlorite in
water (bleach)
■
quaternary ammonium compounds up to 0.5 %
(single compound or mixture) in isopropyl alcohol
(isopropanol) up to 55 %*
■
0.05 % solution of a phenol compound in water*
*
Exception: Do not use the disinfecting agents marked with
an asterisk for disinfecting the accessory box. For
disinfection, use only 0.625 % (or less) solution of sodium
hypochlorite in water (bleach). See also page 137.
