4.4.1 Device Types
NOTE
If data is to be logged in the S7K format, it may be advantageous to log position and
heading as well. To achieve this, position and heading sensors should be interfaced
though the I/O module in addition to the mentioned sensors.
4.4.1.1 Sound Velocity Probe
To achieve correct beam steering in equidistant mode, the sonar needs to have an up-
to-date sound velocity measurement from the water in the area of the sonar head. The
sound velocity must always be entered in the I/O module, even if PDS2000 or a different
acquisition system is used. For installation instructions, see
appendix B.4.1 Sound
4.4.1.2 Clock (1PPS)
To achieve correct time stamping of transmitted pulses it is necessary to send time to
the processor. The SeaBat uses the GPS PPS system to achieve this. The Data
Acquisition System (DAC) should also be synchronized to this. From the GPS receiver,
the SeaBat needs the TTL 1PPS pulse and the qualifying time message (normally ZDA).
The clock synchronization must always be entered in the I/O module. For installation
instructions, see
appendix B.4.3 Time Input
4.4.1.3 Motion Sensor
To achieve roll stabilization the sonar needs to receive input from a motion sensor. The
roll input to the sonar should be the observed roll at the sonar head. If PDS2000 or a
different acquisition system is used, the motion sensor should not be entered in the I/O
module. The motion sensor data for the roll stabilization is read directly from the FPGA.
For installation instructions, see
appendix B.4.2 Motion Sensor Input
4.4.2 Adding a Device
To add a new I/O module device, follow these steps:
1. Start the 7k user interface and select the I/O Module Setup tab.
2. Click New to add the relevant device (e.g. SVP, clock, motion sensor).
3. Select device type and driver.
4. Click the required Port Type.
5. Select the appropriate settings under Serial or Socket properties, Host, and
Protocol (the settings may be preselected).
