Filling the spreader hopper
Instructions for filling the spreader hopper
Only fill the spreader hopper when it is hitched to the tractor.
When determining the maximum permissible load weight, bear in mind the
specific weight (kg/l) of the spreading material. This will depend on the type
of spreading material (e.g. grit, sand, fertiliser) and its condition (dry or wet,
see Chapter
12: Axle load calculation, page 109
).
Fill the spreader on a smooth, solid surface only.
Secure the tractor to prevent it moving. Apply the handbrake.
Use auxiliary equipment (e.g. bucket loader, feed screw conveyor, silo) to fill
the hopper.
Use a suitable platform when filling manually (e.g. filling with Bigpacks).
Fill the hopper no higher than the top edge.
n
DANGER
Danger from running engine
Working on the spreader while the engine is running may cause
serious injuries from the mechanical components and escaping
spreading material.
Never fill the spreader hopper while the tractor engine is running.
Switch off the tractor's engine. Remove the ignition key.
n
CAUTION
Danger from excessive overall weight
If the permissible total weight is exceeded, this will affect the oper-
ating and road safety of the vehicle (spreader and tractor) and
may cause serious damage to the machine and the environment.
Before filling, determine the quantity that you can load.
Do not exceed the approved maximum total weight.
