SECTION 3: CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS
3.1 Re q uired Clearances to Combustibles
Clearances are the req u ired distances that
comb u stible objects m u st be a w ay from the air
handler to pre v ent fire hazards. Comb u stibles are
materials that may catch on fire and incl u de common
items s u ch as w ood, paper, r u bber, fabric, etc.
Maintain clearances to combustibles at all times
for safety.
Check the clearances on each air handler being
installed to make s
u re the prod u ct is s u itable for yo u r
application and the clearances are maintained.
Clearances to comb
u stibles for all models are 6"(15.2
cm) on all s u rfaces. Read and follo w the safety
g u idelines belo w :
• Locate the air handler so that the air intakes are
not too close to any exha u st fan o u tlets, gasoline
storage or other contaminants that co u ld
potentially ca u se dangero u s sit u ations.
• Keep gasoline or other comb u stible materials
incl u ding flammable objects, liq u ids, d u st or
v apors a w ay from this air handler or any other
appliance.
• Maintain clearances from heat sensiti v e material,
eq u ipment and w orkstations.
Clearances to comb u stibles do not denote
clearances for accessibility. Minim u m clearance for
access is 48" (122 cm). Minim u m clearance for
accessibility applies to the control enclos u re, fan
access panel and filter access panel ( w hen
eq u ipped).
The stated clearances to comb u stibles represent a
s u rface temperat u re of 90 °F (50 °C) abo v e room
temperat u re (90 °F [50 °C] pl u s ambient
temperat u re). B u ilding materials w ith a lo w heat
tolerance (i.e. plastics, v inyl siding, can v as, tri-ply,
etc.) may be s u bject to degradation at lo w er
temperat u res. It is the installer’s responsibility to
ass u re that adjacent materials are protected from
degradation.

Maintain clearances from v ehicles parked belo w the
air handler. See Page 9, Section 4.4 .
3.2 Hardware
Unless other w ise specified, all hard w are m u st be
torq u ed to settings on Page 8, Table 1 .

before every ignition.
