Engine Checker
Overview
The engine checker is a tool created to help troubleshoot the printer engine. It
is used to test NVRAM, switches, sensors, and motors, and can run a set of
basic functions. It should be used when making potentiometer adjustments
(also referred to as “volume” adjustments, which is the terminology used on
the engine checker message display).
The engine checker is menu driven. The following functions can be performed
using the engine checker:

Checking Actuator Operation
Allows you to check the status of input devices, including sensors, encoders,
alarm circuits, and switches. Also allows you to check the operation of output
devices, including motors, solenoids, fans, and lamps.

Making Potentiometer Adjustments (Volume Adjustments)
Allows you to make potentiometer (volume) adjustments in various circuits,
such as motors, lamps, and toner density.
•
Checking Basic Operations
Allows you to move fanfold and cut sheet paper through the printer, so that
you can check the paper movement, as well as the operation of the sensors
and actuators in the paper carrier system.
•
Operating the Memory
Allows you to display and change values in the NVRAM on the MC board.
IMPORTANT
The engine checker does not work when the EPS4 sensor is on (i.e.,
when paper is loaded in the printer), or when the transport unit is not
installed.
