14. Why is the picture so dark and/or distorted during playback?
When a copy-protected disc is played on the recorder but connected to
the television/monitor via a VCR, the picture fails to display correctly.
Connect the recorder directly to the viewing device.
15. How can I control my TV using the PRV-9000’s remote control?
Verify that your television allows other remote controls to operate the set.
Select the appropriate code for your make of TV. Refer to Chapter 4:

16. Why can’t I record a particular program?
Check for available recordable space on the disc. Read Chapter 6:
RECORDING FUNCTIONS & OPTIONS, section
6.1.2 Check Available

Verify that there are less than 99 titles and less than 999 chapters on the
disc (Original titles and chapters only for a VR disc).
Confirm that the source material is not copy-protected.
Check that the disc is not copy-protected.
Set the recorder’s built-in TV tuner to the appropriate channel rather than
setting the channel from the television tuner.
When recording to a Video format disc, programs that are copy-once
protected cannot be recorded. Use a VR formatted disc for copy-once
material.
Verify that separate recording sessions did not overlap.
Check for power interruptions during the recording session.
17. Why is my frame search/time search failing?
The Frame Search option is still set to OFF. To set this option to ON,
refer to Chapter 9: INITIAL SETUP MENU, section
9.2.4 Frame Search

Searches only work with DVD media. Verify that the disc is a DVD-ROM
or DVD-R/RW disc.
18. Why doesn’t my camcorder (connected through the DV IN/OUT port)
produce a picture or any sound?
The cable may be loose or disconnected. Check the cable seating.
Disconnect then reconnect the cable to clear any interference.
Verify that the source material is not copy-protected or copy-once
protected.
