19. Flash Memory
T
5CL8
has 61440byte flash memory (address: 1000H to FFFFH). The write and erase operations to the
flash memory are controlled in the following three types of mode.
- MCU mode
The flash memory is accessed by the CPU control in the MCU mode. This mode is used for software
bug correction and firmware change after shipment of the device since the write operation to the flash
memory is available by retaining the application behavior.
- Serial PROM mode
The flash memory is accessed by the CPU control in the serial PROM mode. Use of the serial interface
(UART) enables the flash memory to be controlled by the small number of pins. T
5CL8
in the
serial PROM mode supports on-board programming which enables users to program flash memory after
the microcontroller is mounted on a user board.
- Parallel PROM mode
The parallel PROM mode allows the flash memory to be accessed as a stand-alone flash memory by the
program writer provided by the third party. High-speed access to the flash memory is available by control-
ling address and data signals directly. For the support of the program writer, please ask Toshiba sales rep-
resentative.
In the MCU and serial PROM modes, the flash memory control register (FLSCR) is used for flash memory con-
trol. This chapter describes how to access the flash memory using the flash memory control register (FLSCR) in the
MCU and serial PROM modes.
Note 1: The 'Read Protect' described by data sheet of old edition was changed into 'Security Program'.
