Periodic maintenance (to be done once a month)
Verify the charge state of the service battery using the button “ test” of the LED Voltmeter located on
the control panel of the junction box.
Put in function the battery charger when it is necessary to re-set the charge level(inserting the 220V
net the battery charge is automatically activated).
Extraordinary maintenance (to be done twice a year)
Verify the locking of the connection clamps to avoid inconveniences produced by a wrong conduction.
The clamps must be cleaned and fattened with Vaseline or other fats suitable to protect from oxidation
and corrosion. The caps must be tightened very well and replaced if broken.
Check the electrolyte density and the tension of the single elements that compose the battery to
determine the possible lack of uniformity of that value.
The sealed gel batteries do not require maintenance. For all its life it is not necessary to check the acid
level, to fatten the poles and to add distilled water.
The check and charge operations are however identical to what expected for the traditional batteries.
If the motorhome remains unused for a long period, it is convenient to proceed anyway to a charge
of the battery every for months. The battery preservation with electrolyte at the flat state brings to a
gradual declension which is impossible to recover; the capacity of accumulate energy is permanently
prejudiced.
To avoid dangerous short-circuits remember that, disconnecting the battery, to disconnect first
the negative pole and then the positive pole. For the next connection observe the opposite order,
connecting fist the positive pole, then the negative one.
Caution: In case of damaged battery, we recommend you to get in contact with the assistance
service of the battery manufacturer.
Before a trip, check that the service battery is totally charged. The check must be done using the
apposite switch located on the control panel, after having disconnected the vehicle from the external
220V net supply and after having controlled that there is no light on or functioning devices. The checked
tension must not be inferior to 12,5V, identified value in the display junction box or corresponding to
the second led from above. This value is reached with 12 hours charge. Exploit each occasion during
the trip to re-set the charge level of the service battery.
Charge of the batteries
The acid inside the battery is poisonous and corrosive. Avoid any contact with the skin and the eyes.
During the charge with external battery charge there is danger of explosion. Charge the battery only
in well- aired place and far from flames or possible sparks.
To charge the service battery or the engine battery with an external battery charge, dismantle always
the battery of the motorhome.
Cables must never be connected to opposite poles.
Before disconnecting the clamps from the poles, switch off the engine and disconnect the 220V and
the 12V current supply. When the clamps are disconnected, there is always danger of short-circuits.
If you use lead or gel batteries, verify that the external battery charger is homologated for this kind
of battery.
For the ignition battery look at the operating manual of the chassis’ manufacturer.
Battery preservation in winter
If the motorhome isn’t used for long periods and the 220V current supply is not collected for a long
time, at low temperatures batteries lose their capacity very quickly. In winter or during long periods
of inactivity, dismantle the service battery and the engine battery, keeping them in a place under cover
from frost, to avoid damages caused by intense coldness.
