The Xponential Loudness algorithm has many hidden controls that are not available
to users but instead are contained in one of six “parent presets,” which are named
as colors: YELLOW, GOLD, WHITE, BLUE, RED and BLACK. Each provides a different
audio texture and amount of enhancement. The factory and user processing presets
in the 8700i each have a parent “color” Xponential Loudness Preset associated with
them, along with any customizations of the Xponential Loudness user controls
shown in Table 3-4. The parent preset appears in the

field in the
8700i’s GUI.
This means that customizing the Xponential Loudness settings is a two-step process:
(1) Recall a parent preset, and (2) adjust user controls as desired.
Bypass Mode allows you to bypass all Xponential Loudness processing.
Bypass Gain sets the gain through the Xponential Loudness block when it is in

mode. It is normally set to 0.0 dB.
Preset Profile is a menu of 11 presets with various “colors” of Xponential Loudness
processing.

XL Less-More sets the amount of dynamic Xponential Loudness processing
Some of the Xponential Loudness processing operates in four frequency bands. Four
controls function like a graphic equalizer to set the relative balance between the
frequency bands.
Low Frequency Trim adjusts 0 - 90 Hz (Impact). Note that achieving subjectively flat
response usually requires setting this control to +10 dB.
M2 Trim adjusts 90Hz - 4 kHz (Warmth)
M1 Trim adjusts 2K - 4 kHz (Presence)
High Frequency Trim adjusts 4K - 20 kHz (Sparkle)
AGC Controls
The AGC is common to the two-band and Five-Band structures.
Five of the AGC controls are common to the Intermediate Modify and Advanced
Modify screens, with additional AGC controls available in the Advance Modify
screen, as noted in the following table.
These controls are explained in detail below.
