First use
Initial assembly of the weld
cap
®
bump
is graphically described in the Quick Start Guide (pages
2- 3) In addition, you will find information on the functions and features of the weld
cap
®
bump
in
the Quick Start Guide
Safety guidelines
Read the Instruction Manual before using the weld
cap
®
bump
Check that the front cover lens is
correctly assembled If it is not possible to eliminate errors, the weld
cap
®
bump
should not be used
Precautions & restrictions on protection
During the welding process, heat and radiation, which can lead to eye and skin injuries, are
released This product offers protection for your eyes and face Your eyes are always protected
against ultraviolet and infrared rays when wearing the weld
cap
®
bump
, regardless of the shade
level selected For protection of the rest of the body, wearing appropriate protective clothing is
required additionally Particles and substances released during the welding process can cause
allergic skin reactions in people who are susceptible Skin contact with the fabric component can
lead to allergic reactions in people who are sensitive
The weld
cap
®
bump
may only be used for welding and grinding and not for other applications If the
weld
cap
®
bump
is used for any other purpose than that which it is meant for or if the Instruction Manual
is disregarded, in its use, Optrel assumes no liability The weld
cap
®
bump
is suitable for all usual
welding processes, except for laser welding Please observe the shade level recommendation
according to EN169 (page 8)
Guarantee & liability
Please see the directives of Optrel‘s national sales organization for the guarantee provisions
Please contact your Optrel dealer for further information on this
The guarantee only applies to material and production flaws In the case of damages through
incorrect use, unauthorized interventions or use which is not foreseen by the manufacturer,
there is no guarantee or liability There is also no guarantee or liability if replacement parts other
than those sold by Optrel are used
Use
1
Protection level
By turning the knob, you can set the protection level from between 9 to 12,
according to your choice
2
Grind mode.
By setting the shade level knob to GRIND, the shade cartridge is reset to the GRIND
mode The cartridge is deactivated in this mode and remains in the light state The shade level knob
should always be turned counterclockwise until the end of the GRIND position
3
Stand-by.
When the weld
cap
®
bump
is NOT in use, the shade level should be set at GRIND This
increases battery life substantially!
Washing
1
ONLY
the fabric head and neck guard of the weld
cap
®
bump
may be washed Under no circumstances
should you wash the shade cartridge together with the plastic shield and electronics
2 Before washing, remove the impact cap from the fabric (for instructions, see our homepage)
3 Use a commercially available washing bag (The protruding hooks on the sewn-on synthetic part can
damage other items of washing)
4 Let the weld
cap
®
bump
dry for at least one day after washing!
Explanation: the synthetic parts become saturated with water Their rigidity is thereby reduced
and this leads to an imprecise fit on the mask One or two days are necessary before the
synthetic material regains its previous rigidity
5 Only wash according to the washing instruction (40 °C or 104 °F, do not dry clean, do not bleach,
gentle drying cycle)
6 After 15 washes, the flame-retardant properties of the textile are significantly reduced These should
be refreshed using a spray or replaced (available at your weld
cap
®
bump
dealer)
Batteries
The shade cartridge uses replaceable lithium button cell batteries of the CR2032 type The atteries have
to be replaced when the LED on the box blinks red or the shade cartridge does not shade (see page 6)
If the shade cartridge does not shade:
1 Remove the battery cover carefully
2 Remove the batteries and dispose of these according to the national provisions for hazardous
waste
3 Use the battery type CR2032 as shown in the picture
4 Carefully refit the battery cover
If the shade cartridge no longer darkens when the welding arc is fired, please check the polarity of the
batteries If the shade cartridge does not function properly, even after the batteries have been replaced
correctly, it has to be deemed no longer serviceable and replaced
Battery and battery life:
1 The battery lasts for approx 1,000 hours (active welding time) when welding at the medium
shade level
2 The battery lasts for approx 2 years (10,000h) if the weld
cap
®
bump
is not used at all (GRIND
mode)
3 Battery life is substantially reduced if the weld
cap
®
bump
is stored where it is exposed to blazing
sunlight (sensor against the sun)
4 Only use new CR2032 batteries
Cleaning
The shade cartridge and front cover lens can be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth in order to
prolong their life No strong cleaning products, solvents, alcohol or cleaning products containing
abrasives may be used Scratched or damaged visual panels should be replaced
Storage
The weld
cap
®
bump
should be stored at room temperature and low humidity In order to prolong the
life of the batteries, store the weld
cap
®
bump
in its original packaging
Problem solving
The shade cartridge does not shade
→ Deactivate the Grind mode
→ Clean the sensors and front cover lens
→ Check the light flow to the sensor
→ Replace the batteries
The shade cartridge flickers
→ Replace the batteries
Poor visibility
→ Clean or replace the front cover lens or inside cover lens
→ Adjust the shade level to suit the welding procedure
→ Turn up the ambient light
The
weld
cap
®
bump
slips
→ Adjust the fabric part to the head size again
