CASY TT Operator‘s Guide
Weekly Cleaning Routine
4. MAINTENANCE AND CARE
The CASY System is designed to be low-maintenance; the fluid system however requires regular
attention to guarantee fault-free work over several years. Working with biological materials, means
that residues in the fluid system or growth of bacteria, algae or yeast cells can lead to blockages in
the measuring pore, as well as too high a background and other faults during operation. To avoid
such errors, you must follow the cleaning procedure described below at least once per week. The
recommended agent,
CASY clean
, is available from
OLS
The system should be cleaned using only the
CASY clean
agent specified by
OLS OMNI Life Sci-
ence
Never use aggressive cleaning fluids on the CASY Instrument.

cepts no liability for damage caused by using other cleaning agents!
4.1 Weekly Cleaning Routine
1
Fill two CASY cups with CASY clean.
2
Place one CASY cup under the measuring capillary.
3
Replace the storage container holding CASY ton (right-hand cylinder) with the second CASY cup.
4
Run three cleaning cycles by holding the
CLEAN
key down and selecting 3 cycles.
5
Perform a triple measurement using a measuring volume of 400 µl and pressing
START
. The error
message “Concentration too high” may be displayed which must be confirmed by pressing
ENTER
but can be ignored in this step.
6
Leave the CASY fluid system filled with CASY clean for at least 3 hours to allow incubation of the
liquid system.
7
Replace the cleaning solution with two CASY cups containing
distilled water
.
8
Run three cleaning cycles by holding the
CLEAN
key down and selecting 3 cycles.
9
Perform a triple measurement using a measuring volume of 400 µl and pressing
START
. The error
message “Concentration too high” may be displayed which must be confirmed by pressing
ENTER
but can be ignored in this step.
10
Repeat steps
7
to
9
to remove the cleaning solution completely.
11
Repeat steps
7
to
9
using CASY
ton.
12
The CASY System is now operational again.
Routine care:
Never leave the measuring capillary immersed in samples! On completion of a series of
measurements, place a CASY cup containing fresh CASY ton under the measuring capillary and run
at least 3 clean cycles by holding the
CLEAN
key down and selecting 3 cycles.
Before switching off, always monitor the CASY TT’s background (see Chapter 3.4). Run a measure-
ment using fresh CASY ton.
