Océ VarioPrint 1105
The Océ VarioPrint 1105 is a very aggressive
and attractive additional offering in to the
100ppm back office category. While there
are some areas still open for improvement,
the device has caused quite a stir among
both the rival low cost competitors and the
traditional big iron print shop heavyweights.
The scope of online document production
capabilities are impressive, with a selection
of unique selling points with which to wow
the buyer. The one downside in our opinion
is that the design of the low lying right angle
saddle-stitch unit might result in a few
bruised shins and sore backs.
The user interface both from the desktop
and at the device itself are well laid out
allowing operators to achieve complex
document production tasks with the
minimum of fuss.
Operators and administrators of the Océ
VarioPrint 1105 will like the flexible
range of management monitoring tools of the
PageScope utility.
Image quality
was good across
the board, with
good fine line
detailing,
excellent
reproduction of
halftones and
grayscales, and
crisp text down
to small point
sizes.
Paper handling is another strong feature of
the device, with the needs of the back office
workflow being met in terms of coated media
support, heavy card stock feeding from all
tray and a high ledger/A3 capacity.
The one issue we had with the paper
handling ability of the device lay in its
inability to incorporate pre-printed pages
from the dual post process inserter trays into
the bulk of the document. This would have
opened up even more doors for the product
and is a feature that we hope to see on a
later edition or next generation product.
In short, the Océ VarioPrint 1105
is a tough competitor to beat in the
increasingly fierce world of entry level back
office/CRD printing.
