Quality Adjustment
Use this function to adjust the exposure level (density) of the copy image. Al-
so, adjust the copy quality by specifying the original image type.
9.3.1
Selecting Exposure Level and Adjusting Background
Whiteness: Density, Background Removal
Automatic Exposure Selection (AES) operates with the default settings. It de-
tects the density of the original image and automatically selects the appro-
priate exposure for the copy.
Select manual copy density to adjust exposure (density) when originals are
too light or too dark.
Adjust also the background whiteness (Background Removal) when copying
newspaper or recycled paper originals.

Detail
Preset Density
programs the desired density selected among 16 expo-
sure levels divided from the darkest level to normal level, and normal level
to the lightest level, respectively.
This setting can be made in the Utility mode for the two keys provided on
the screen. For details, see POD Administrator’s Reference.
To recall the programed density, follow the procedure below.
Density by Original Type
can shift each of nine density levels described
below to three levels lighter or three levels darker.
This setting can be made in the Utility mode to use in combination with
each of four Original Type modes. For details, see POD Administrator’s
Reference.
